How to get your garden kid ready! | Blog

Last week I finally thought that spring had sprung and we were well on our way to getting some decent sunshine. Then storm Doris came along and literally blew that out the window but it still hasn't stopped me from thinking about getting ready to get in the garden with pickle. He loved being outside in the garden last summer and I can't see this year being any different. The brief glimpse of sun got me thinking about what I can do to get our garden more child friendly now that he is that bit older and wanting to explore so much more so I thought I'd share my ideas with you!

1. Simply Plastics Garden Mirror.
I have been thinking recently been thinking about how we can make our garden look more kid friendly without making it look like a nursery garden and this Garden Mirror from Simply Plastics
really fits the bill. I will be putting one of these mirrors on the side of our garden shed which has pickle wooded play area in front of it. I am hoping that not only will pickle like being able to see himself bouncing on his trampoline but it will also help make our garden look a little bigger as mirrors always create the illusion of more space. The reason I would get the mirror from this particular brand is because not only are they super affordable but you can cater the mirror to the space that you have. I was able to get a made to measure mirror for our garden for less than £100 which is a bargain in my opinion!

2. Grow your own vegetables kit
I love this idea and growing our own vegetables is something that I am definitely going to try with pickle this year. Pickle has recently really got into baking and cooking with us so I think he will really enjoy doing some gardening with us and hopefully seeing the vegetables grow. I also like to think that if we continue growing vegetables as he gets older he will understand more about how to look after things and where our food comes from.

3. Bird Feeding Station.

If your little one is anything like mine then they would love this in the garden. Pickle gets so excited when he sees a bird and I think he will really enjoy filling up the station with seed and hanging up fat balls. I remember doing that kind of thing with my mum when I was little and I can't wait to make these memories with pickle too.

4. Foam Mats
You can get these foam mats anywhere and we have had a set for pickle ever since we did our garden 2 summers ago. They have so many uses!! I use them for under the paddling pool, on pickles wooden play area if he's running around with no shoes and even as a picnic space if we are having an al fresco lunch. They are super cheap, really easy to get hold of and so useful. Best part is that you can pop them away in the shed at the end of the day.

5. Play House.
Now you can make this as expensive or as cheap as you like. When I have been looking around for playhouses I have seen some that are so beautiful but you would need a small mortgage to buy them!! This one from Chad Valley is right up my street as it's affordable (around £50 depending on where you buy it), its big enough for pickle and it's easy to assemble and look after. What more could you want? :)

I can't wait to get out in the garden and start making it pickle ready! What do you think of my ideas? Anything I've missed out and you would include? Let me know :)
