Date day in London  | ICE BAR and Yuu Kitchen Review

Note: This post contains a gifted meal and gifted tickets into ICE BAR but all opinions expressed are honest and my own.

Hubby and I hardly ever get to spend any one on one time together. Our time is normally spent as a family and even then, one of us is usually dealing with Smidge whilst the other looks after Pickle so we hardly spend any time together. If I’m being honest, I really do miss him when we haven’t been together for a while. I remember being young and childless and being able to pop to the pub for a drink after work or even just being able to hold hands when walking because we didn’t have to push a pram or hold anyone else’s hand. I really miss those days and I needed to take action. I booked my mother in law to babysit and set a date where hubby and I were going to go out and spend the day together. No one else, no distractions, just me and him and it was wonderful!!

We booked to see Waitress the Musical (which was unreal by the way and I would completely recommend it) but before we went to the theatre, we were invited to have lunch at Yuu Kitchen and visit ICE BAR for a drink. Hubs has ever been to ICE BAR before so we jumped at the chance to go and it did not disappoint.

Yuu Kitchen was created by experienced restaurateurs Stephen Lowe and Jon de Villa. Head Chef Jon’s menu is inspired by his heritage and travels across South-East Asia and brings in his experience from Nobu London. The menu is designed for sharing with a choice of small plates including slow cooked meats, 12 hr braised pork belly, tangy adobo wings and our personal favourite, bao buns!

The Yuu Kicthen in Mayfair had a wonderful outdoor terrace which is away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets. The foliage and gentle background music really transport you to a Japanese wonderland. It's easy to forget that you are in the middle of London.

The food, cocktails and service from the amazing team was first class and we would not hesitate in going back there. I'd make the time just for another one of their baos! They were so good!!

After we'd eaten pretty much the entire menu (well, we had to make sure we gave it all a try to give a fair review right??) we headed downstairs to ICE BAR. I was so excited about this because I've been to the ICE BAR before but hubs hadn't so I couldn’t wait for him to experience it because it really is an experience like no other.

ICE BAR is pretty much what it says on the tin. It's a bar, made of ice. But it isn't just the bar that’s made of ice, everything is made of ice. The walls, the decor, even the glasses are ice. Before you go in you are given a hooded, thermal poncho with built in gloves which you do need as it is a chilly 5 degrees in there.

What I didn't know was that each year the Ice Bar team comes up with a new concept. When I visited for my 30th Birthday it was a London theme with a cab and a beefeater guard statue. This time it's gone Nordic so there was a Thor’s hammer and other Viking references.

Overall, if you're looking for something to do without the kids in London then I can't recommend ICE BAR and Yuu Kitchen enough! We had a wonderful time and will definitely be heading back when we can ship the kids off again!!
