Being a mummy is hard sometimes..

Today was a hard Mummy day. We all get them, no matter how perfect you make out your child to be you would have had a hard mummy day. I'm talking about those types of days where you can't leave the room without someone screaming, forget to eat as your too busy trying to persuade your child into eating anything and can't even go to the loo without someone accompanying you! It has been a really tough day and I honestly could not wait for hubby to get home. Not to see him but so that he could take Bubs and I could get just 5 mins away.

That sounds so awful to say but I think every mother has felt like this at least once. Don't get me wrong, Bubba wasn't being naughty..he was just very very very tried after only having an hours sleep (his choice as he wouldn't go back to sleep) and that made him totally miserable. What I found the hardest was that 1 moment he would be fine and would be playing and happy and then the next he would be clinging onto my leg and trying to climb up me and then when I picked him up for a cuddle he would then start wiggling to get down. He just couldn't decide what he wanted so the only thing I could do was just ride it out and let him get on with it. It got to the stage where he pinched a pot of peppercorns out of the cupboard when I was sorting his dinner and because I wouldn't open the lid for him he ended up laying face down on the floor, crying like the world was ending . We also had nightmares at lunch...you can probably imagine the reaction I got when Bubba's breadstick dunker ran out of cheese!!!! None of this of course made me love him any less or anything like that...it was just draining to have someone pretty much clinging to my leg or screaming for me all day long.

So now, after about 8 hours of whinging, moaning and the occasional full blown, laying on the floor, red faced melt down, Bubba is asleep. He is asleep and I have wine! The worst part of it all is that I expect that I am going to have to do this all again tomorrow as Bubs has his 1 year jabs :( Although, if he is a pickle after that then I think I will find it easier as I will understand why its happening and I have already syked myself up for a rough day. We will just see what tomorrow brings...
Send me all your prayers and wishes as I think we may need them tomorrow!!! :(

First birthday gift guide

Disclaimer : All of the products in this post have been purchased by either myself, my husband or our family and friends. None of the companies mentioned have endorsed or sponsored this post and all opinion mentioned are my own and 100% honest.

Our little boy turned 1 on Monday and at the weekend he had his first birthday party...our house now looks like a toys r us store!! He was so so spoilt and received so many lovely gifts from our friends and family so I thought I would post about what I think are the top 10 gifts you could get for a first birthday! These are in no particular order and prices may vary depending on where you buy.

1. Pop up Tent and Tunnel set.

Every child seems to love a tent. I don't know what it is but they just love them! Oliver's one was brought for him from his Nanny and Granddad and it is a little different to the one I have linked as it comes with a 2 pop up Tents and a tunnel (as you can see in the background of the picture).
It's is (of course) Micky Mouse as my little pickle is Mickey Mouse crazy and he loves this tent! He has one that stays permanently ''popped up'' in the corner of his bedroom and then we have the other tent and the tunnel downstairs that we pop up whenever he wants to play with it. This one here is one of the tents Ollie has and its from Smyths http://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/outdoor/c-646/play-houses-tents/p-9684/disney-mickey-mouse-clubhouse-4-panel-tent-printed-2-sides/

2. Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Car.

I don't know about you but my childhood was filled with memories of my dad running me up and down the street in one of these and me, having to keep my feet held up to stop them from getting trapped underneath where we were going so fast. Today's Cozy Coupe has had some modifications (maybe from the many children with fast car, feet caught related accidents) and now has a little tray that you can attach to the foot space part of the car for when the child is smaller and it is great! Oliver loves this car and Hubby has already been given the job as official car pusher every time we are outside and Oliver sees his car :) I have found one from Tescos here: http://www.tesco.com/direct/little-tikes-cozy-coupe-classic-ride-on-car/205-2931.prd

3. The Gruffalo Book set.

Oliver loves books! He loves nothing more than sitting down with his cardboard books and looking through them. It keeps him entertained for ages and that was why I was so happy when I saw what a very lovely friend had brought for him. This book set comes with the Gruffalo and the Gruffalo's child in a beautiful presentation box. Not only is the story such a classic, they have the added bonus of not having any paper in them that Oliver can rip meaning he can happily sit and look through them on his own or can help us turn the pages when we are reading to him. This is a version of what he has here: http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&productId=519172&cm_mmc=Google%20Adwords-_-PLA-_-The+Gruffalo+Anniversary+Edition+Set+-+2+Books+with+CD-_--GANN&gclid=Cj0KEQjwvdSvBRDahavi3KPGrvUBEiQATZ9v0MM6AJcZVzs4DonZYrvaNcxXb6dDotmz7trIi3k5j7YaAuXy8P8HAQ

4. Smart Trike

We brought this for Oliver and actually gave it to him just over a month ago and we wanted him to get some use out of it during the good weather and he loves it! There has been a lot floating around social media promoting Smart trikes recently and I can see why. They are so easy to use, kids love them, they are amazing value for money as they with the child and they brilliantly designed and built.
The one we actually got him that you can see him enjoying in the pictures was from Argos but it doesn't look like they sell it anymore so I have linked one that is very similar from Amazon here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/SmarTrike-Dream-Touch-Steering-Black/dp/B00BIZKX44/ref=sr_1_4?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1442172794&sr=1-4&keywords=smart+trike

5. Shape sorters.

Oliver was brought one of these by a family member and its something so simple but he really enjoys it. It is exactly what it say on the tin, a shape sorter. The one that Oliver was brought is a farm themed one but there are obviously hundreds available. This is like the one that Bubs has: http://www.elc.co.uk/Wooden-Shape-Sorter/141241,default,pd.html

6. Kiddieland Farmer and Tractor.

Oliver loves this but is also a little scared of it at the same time! It is quite funny to what to be honest! This tractor sings and makes noises and even moves along on its own and that's the bit that he's a little unsure of. He loves playing with the animals which come out of the trailer and clapping along to the farmer singing Old Mac Donald but when it starts to drive along he comes toddling over to me and has to sit with me until its finished..haha! Its a great little toy and a brilliant price. I found this one at B&M's: http://www.bmstores.co.uk/products/kiddieland-farm-tractor-with-trailer-215444

7. Next Clothes.

I really love the clothing range for children and babies in Next but I do think it's a little over priced for every day shopping especially when kiddies grow so fast and end up so mucky. In saying that, I love it when he is brought next clothes as they always seem like a treat :) Bubs got some lovely dungarees and some super soft baby grows from my Nan and Mum. If you haven't already (although you probably have) pop over to the next website and check out their kiddie stuff...its lush!!

8. Little Tikes Melody Maker Musical Gift set.

Everyone that knows our son know that he loves anything that makes a noise. He already has countless maracas and bells and ever since he was about 2 months old my Mum has been threatening to get him a drum. Well...she went through with this threat and Bubba loves his new drum and instruments! This is such a fab little set and at Oliver's party all the Bubba's were getting stuck in playing with the instruments. This is the set that Oliver has:http://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/pre-school-electronic-learning/c-468/other-preschool/p-7266/little-tikes-melody-maker-musical-gift-set/

9. LittleLife Mickey Mouse Backpack with Reins.

To be fair, this is more for me and Hubby but as it is Mickey Mouse, Bubba loves it! I know reins are a bit of a controversial thing but Bubba is becoming more and more confident with his walking and I know that it is only a matter of weeks until he is running around all over the place and I would rather know that he is safe by putting a back pack like this on him than risk him running out into the road. I love that these reins have the backpack on them as it means that as Oliver gets older he will be able to put all his little bits and bobs in it and give him a little bit of independence. This is the one that we got him: https://www.littlelife.co.uk/product/toddler-daysacks/mickey-disney-daysack

10. Little Tikes Rocking Horse.

This was something that we suggested Hubby's Dad get for Bubs as he has one at his Nanny's house and he really enjoys playing on it. Also, as we have just finished our garden so it is great to have some garden toys for Oliver's new play area. This is the horse here: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9247053.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=cgid:18091973005|tsid:59156|cid:189942085|lid:96720115285|nw:g|crid:77627773405|rnd:14102335841082849923|dvc:c|adp:1o1|bku:1&gclid=Cj0KEQjwvdSvBRDahavi3KPGrvUBEiQATZ9v0Lg59X89bsvzX2EKowe71I3UZix1Zx7S521zZ_Nj1pYaAhxg8P8HAQ

So that is my top 10 gifts for a first birthday. Bubs received so many gifts and this list could honestly go on and on but I just wanted to shorten it down to 10 that you could get for boys or girls. Is there anything that you would add to this list or anything you brought for your little ones first birthday?

To my one year old..

To our wonderful son,

Today you turned 1. I can't really believe that it has been a whole year since you came into mine and Daddy's lives and turned everything upside down in such an amazing way. I can't believe that 1 year ago today I was holding you, my tiny 8lb perfect bundle of joy, for the first time, kissing your newborn cheeks, stroking your perfect face, snuggling you and taking in every single part of you. You were and are perfect.
Ever since that day, my life has been filled with a new type of happiness and wonder. You constantly amaze me with what you do. From your first smile to your first words, rolling over for the first time to walking around and watching you go from being our little baby into a funny, affectionate, clever little boy.

There have been some challenging times. We have had many sleepless nights caused by you being poorly, teething or just being a pickle but its okay. I have actually been shocked at how little sleep me and daddy can run on. Throughout all of those sleepless nights and hard days where you have been poorly and not wanting to be put down so we have just cuddled, there is just one thing that has mattered. You. I didn't care when you were poorly that you were throwing up all over me as long as you knew I was there and that it was all going to be okay. The nights where you had teeth cutting through so wanted to be close to me and Daddy, I didn't mind not sleeping as I had your foot in my face or as I was watching you just in case anything happened. The lack of sleep meant nothing as long as you were okay and you were happy.

And you are fine. In fact, you are more than fine. You are such a healthy, strong, happy little boy who is always amazing us with his latest trick. Most recently you have started walking on your own and you have also started clapping and it is just brilliant seeing how happy you are when me and Daddy praise you for walking and clapping :) You bring a new sense of joy into our lives every day and I know that every day spent with you will be filled with happiness and laughter.

We have made so many memories with you and it is strange as you won't remember them but me and Daddy will. Your first time swimming. Your first trip to the Zoo. Your first time going to the seafront. When you met very some very special family members who are now sitting on their stars watching over you from the sky rather than being down with us. All of these are memories that we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

This year has gone so fast. In a way, it makes me feel so sad that you are now one as I feel that I am loosing my little baby. I wish I could slow down time a little bit as I know that we will blink and you will suddenly be turning 2 and I will be wondering where the last year went again. I am going to make sure that this next year, I make sure that I soak up every single second that we have together and that I cherish every moment as if I have learnt anything this year it is that time goes by so quickly and once its gone, its gone.

In saying this, I am so so proud of the little boy that you are becoming. You are such a good little boy who always listens when he is told no (even though you try to reason with me in your own little language first!) and you are starting to develop such a funny little personality. You love nothing more than being funny and making people laugh and you are so so so affectionate. You love giving the people you love kisses and me and Daddy love receiving them, even if they are extremely dribbly :)

So, our wonderful son, Happy First Birthday! We love you so so so much and cannot wait to see what the next year brings.

We love you always and forever

Mummy & Daddy

PS - sorry for the photos...but they are my favorite memories of my favorite year :)

Life gets in the way sometimes..

I feel like this blog has been a little unloved recently and feel like I have been letting some of my readers down as I haven't been posting as much and haven't been as active on social media as normal.

Since mid August I have had to travel to London for work which isn't a massive journey but it has made my journey to work go from 15 minutes which it what it normally is to 1 hour 30 minutes and it has been draining me! I have been coming home after getting Bubba, getting him to bed, doing dinner for me and Hubby and then collapsing in front of the telly. Even the days that I have not been working, Bubba had a sickness bug and then an ear infection of as much as I have wanted to blog, I have just not had the time, will power or energy too.

Reading that back it sounds like I am just saying 'blah blah blah...poor little me...'' and its not that at all. Just felt like I needed to give a little explanation as to why I have been so MIA recently.

Stuff hasn't all been doom and gloom recently though. We have less than a week until Bubba turns 1!! Bubbas birthday means a family and close friends BBQ in our new spanking garden (which I am actually getting a little excited about), a trip to the zoo on Bubba's birthday and a whole week off work for me and Hubby which means a whole week as a family which is the part I am most excited about! Also, as I have already mentioned, we have a brand new garden :) Now, I cannot take any credit at all for this one as Hubby, his Step Dad, his brother and a couple of close friends have worked so amazingly hard to help Hubby turn our garden from a concrete jungle into a beautiful family garden. I am so proud of what he has achieved and so thankful for all the help we have had to get it finished in time for Bubbas birthday BBQ.
Going forward I am hoping to give this blog a lot more love as I will be back to working locally and working my normal hours and days and hopefully Bubba will settle back down again and get into his routine so I can get back on here and give My Mummy Spam some love :)

Baby in a bag!

Bubba has pretty much always slept in a bag. And by bag, I mean a sleeping bag! When he was tiny and in his Moses basket we used cellular blankets as recommended but Bubba just didn't like them and used to kick them off. That when we turned to sleeping bag and we have never looked back!

The first couple of bags Bubba had were from high street stores like M&co and F&F but when he got to 6 months and outgrew his little bag I purchased a Gro Bag and it is brilliant! The Gro Company is a UK based, award winning company that is all about safer sleep solutions. They offer a HUGE range of products from their Gro-Swaddles and Grobags to their ever popular Gro-Egg and Gro-Clock and as they are uniquely endorsed by the lullaby trust, I can't recommend them enough.

Now at this point I feel I need to stress that this blog post has NOTHING to do with the Gro Company. It is not sponsored, endorsed or anything by them but I just genuinely believe in their products and wanted to share one of my Mummy top buys with you.

We do have a Groegg (which is AMAZING) but it is the Grobags that I really wanted to talk about in this post as they have really revolutionised nap time and bed time in our house. The Grobags come inhere.
4 different tog ratings: 3.5 tog for those super chilly nights and temperatures below 16 c, 2.5 tog for general every night wear when the room is between 16c - 20c, 1 tog for warmer nights and day times naps and a 0.5 tog for those very warm nights of 24c plus. They also come in a massive range of colours, patterns and styles. We have one in every tog rating (although we are yet to use the 3.5 tog) and tend to use the 2.5 tog the most. I love them because they give me piece of mind that Bubba is safe. When he was little I love that I knew he couldn't pull the covers over his face or slip under them because of the poppers at the shoulder and the fit and I always felt better knowing that he couldn't kick the covers off and then feel cold. Bubba loves them as well! So much so that if I was to put him down for a nap and he wasn't in a bag then he will not go to sleep! I think he likes the safe feeling that comes with being zipped up and being snug in his sleeping bag and it is honestly very very hard to get him to sleep in his cot when he is not in a bag now. Well, that and Ewan the dream sheep (who you can see makes an appearance in every single photo above!) which is once again another amazing bit of baby kit. Read more about him here or visit their website

I cannot recommend the Gro Company products enough, especially their Grobag sleeping bags. I can't see Bubba sleeping in anything else any time soon and if you have a little wriggler or unsettled baby then take a look at their website as I am sure there will be something to help :)

Life before Baby (a photo filled blog!)

It's hard to remember that there was life before Bubba. He fills my life with such happiness and love that I honestly find it so hard to remember a time without him but recently I came across some photos and it all came flooding back.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love my life right now. In fact, I would say that where I am in my life right now is my favorite place so far. I love having bubba, my husband, our close group of friends, our families, our little house and even my job. Overall, I am just in a really good place.
That doesn't mean that I was in a bad place before. I consider myself very lucky when I say that I have never suffered with any sort of depression or anything like that and have always lead a relatively happy and simple life. Apart from the past year, there has been one time in my life that really stuck out as amazing. It was from August 2012 to August 2013. That years time period was without a doubt my second favorite time!
It all started in August 2012 in the lead up to our wedding. I loved planning our wedding and we did the majority of it ourselves with the help of family and friends and Ebay!! :) It wasn't a ridiculously expensive or over the top affair but it was perfect for us. We had everyone we loved and cared about all in the same place to watch us promise to love each other forever and then have a good old party afterwards. We loved it and I don't think we could have had a better day if we tried :)
We were then very lucky to be able to go away on a honeymoon thanks to my wonderful parents. We went to Rhodes (somewhere I had never been before) and fell in love with the Island. We will go back one day as it was honestly one of the best holidays we had ever had and the Greek are just such lovely, welcoming people.

After coming back from honeymoon I didn't experience the wedding blues that people had warned me about and we settled into our new life as Husband and Wife. Just before Christmas 2012 my husband rung me whilst he was out at his Christmas party and told me that we were off to Kenya for 7 days in January as he had won something at his work. I still remember where I was when we had that conversation and how I was sure he was messing around to start with but he wasn't and at the end of Jan 2013 off we went to Kenya. It was such an amazing place and we had experiences that I am sure we will never have again even if we wanted to. It was all down to the place, the people and the timing and it was so amazing. Without a doubt a once in a lifetime trip with memories I will cherish forever.
A couple of months after coming back from Kenya we decided that we had done enough traveling for now and that it was the right time to start thinking about buying a house. We were renting a little flat which was a lovely place but in such a horrible area. After a lot of looking around and with help from our parents and a fantastic mortgage broker we got the keys to our little house on the 9th August 2013 at 10.30 am and we started a new chapter in our lives.
I really thought that that year was going to be hard to top. Getting married, traveling, buying a house...it was all amazing but the last year has topped it without a doubt :) Keep an eye out on the blog soon for my thoughts on the last year :)
What has been a stand out time in your life? I would love to know about it in the comments or let me know on facebook or twitter :)
