Remembering 2017...  |  Blog

Well, what a year 2017 has been. Travels, days out, new additions... it’s been a pretty awesome ride this year and I figured when better to reflect back on it than the last day of 2017. I did the same on here for 2016 and I loved being able to read it back and compare how this year went to the last and it’s true what they say about things only getting better! My word to describe 2016 was ''calm'' and I think if I had to describe 2017 in one word it would have to be “family”. I feel like this year I have spent so much time with my little family and it has been pretty damn amazing! Why?? Well, in the words of Maria from the sound of music (bloody brilliant film right??) “let’s start at the very beginning...’

The first memorable event of 2017 was that in January I started a new role at my work place. It was a scary choice at the time but in hindsight I can say it was the best choice I could have made! I am so much happier at work now than I was in 2016 and so grateful for the opportunity that was given to me. I think it has had a huge impact on the way my year has gone and I know that I made the right choice for me when I changed roles. The first few months of the year was also filled with lots of unexciting family time. By that I mean my little family and my extended family and in laws just doing normal things together like dinners, walks in the woods and every day things but those moments to me are as special as the big events so I want to remember them.

The next big event in 2017 was the introduction of our new addition... our little fur baby Maisie. Maisie came home on the 1st April and although having a puppy is hard work, I wouldn’t change her for the world. The bond her and pickle has is just so beautiful to watch and I’m so glad our little poopy puppy came into our lives!

June flew round and before I knew it we were off on a plane for pickles first sunny holiday and it was a week of pure bliss. Pickle was a dream, the hotel was wonderful and we spent all of our days just milling around the pool, playing and relaxing. It was near perfection and that week gave me memories that will really last a life time.

They always say that with the good comes the bad and that was true in July as a couple weeks after coming back from our wonderful holiday I thought it was be a great idea to break my toe!! Due to the location of the break I ended up signed off work for 4 weeks!!!! To some that may sound like heaven but I hated it! For the first week I could hardly walk and then even once it started to feel better I couldn’t go far so it was pretty horrible being housebound for that long. The plus side of being at home though was that in August we were able to potty train pickle! This was a huge achievement for 2017 and I am so proud of how well he picked it up!

I think that August and September were my favourite months of 2017. In August we headed to the Forest of Dean and although it was only for a short break it was so wonderful. We also headed for a pretty special trip to the zoo where Pickle took part in a little keeper experiance. It was so special! In September we celebrated Pickles 3rd birthday and headed off to Peppa Pig world for a couple of days and visited Legoland. The photos from Peppa Pig world are some of my favourite from the year and even though it piddled down with rain on the first day it didn’t stop us from having the most amazing time.

Once again... taking the rough with the smooth... September saw hubby starting the work on renovating our kitchen. It was a HUGE task that ended up taking almost 3 months to fully finish and saw me and pickle moving out to my mother in laws for 3 nights whilst hubby made the house livable again. Now it’s done I love it and I am so pleased we went through all of the stress but it was still bloody awful whilst it was being done!

October brought another hospital visit for me but this time it was a planned one. I went to have my tonsils taken out and it’s a good job I went when I did as I found out some pretty massive news 2 weeks after my operation which would have stopped me from having the op if I knew. That leads me on to the biggest, most life changing thing to happen in 2017...

We found out in November that baby number 2 was due to make an appearance into our lives in July 2018! Now... I wonder what I will write a lot about in 2018.... :)

Then, in what felt like a blink of an eye, it was December which brought with it a magical, festive yet very cold trip to Disneyland Paris, a special Christmas where pickle finally understood and got involved in the magic and a whole load of sickness and tiredness for me! December was filled with so many beautiful Christmas moments but if I’m being honest I think I was too stuck in that 1st trimester haze of sickness and tiredness to really appreciate it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it and loved Christmas but I don’t think I made the most of it.

So there we have it... 2017! What a year it has been and I think I can honestly say it has been one of the best! I really DO NOT expect 2018 to be as smooth as 2017 as it’s going to involve the life changing event of having our second baby!

But for now... thanks 2017. You’ve been amazing! Have a wonderful new year to all of you out there and I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you to every one if you that has ever read my blog, commented on anything or shared. I’m so grateful to all of you for reading and taking the time to reach out to me and I hope your stick around for 2018 as it’s shaping up to be an exciting one!!!
